Fast Break: Bringing Home The Bacon

Waking up in the morning to the sweet sound of a sizzling cast iron and the smell of bacon wafting up is the most idyllic morning one could ask for. There’s something about how bacon smells that just makes you want to eat a pile of it, and still ask for more. Crispy, salty, goes good with everything (I mean, they have bacon floss now), what more can you ask for?

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “bringing home the bacon.” To us that means making money, but originally it meant something completely different. In 12th century England, if a man could stand in front of a congregation and swear before God that he had never argued with his wife for the whole year, he would get to bring home a whole side of bacon. That’s motivation to never argue, now isn’t it?

Bringing home a side of bacon could be the best thing to do. It goes with breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and it’s one of the easier meats to cure, making it easy to produce. There’s so many reasons why bacon is everywhere.
There’s quite a few types of bacon, but I’ve recently fallen in love with candied bacon. Think bacon coated in caramelized sugar. I know, it’s almost too good to be true. I feel in love with it because I tried our new Bacon Pimento Cheeseburger. The flavors in this are so well balanced: homemade pimento cheese, candied bacon, chargrilled Angus burger, tomato, and lettuce on a brioche bun.
Please sir, may I have some more?
