Meet The Chef: Evelyn Ambrocio

There’s nothing better than looking back in the kitchen and seeing that Evelyn is making your breakfast. You know that it’s going to be brilliant. Sunny Street Café in Westerville has a very special, cozy, familiar feeling, and Evelyn’s mastery makes you feel even more at home. For five years she has been the kitchen manager. She loves the atmosphere and makes sure her kitchen is a fun place to work.

So let’s get to know her a little better, and find out what she does when she’s not making the best eggs benedict in town.

Meet the Chef: Evelyn

What do you do when you’re not at work? What are some of your hobbies?

  • I have two daughters, and we really love going shopping together. I also go to the gym to get a good workout in!

What is your favorite ingredient to work with?

  • Jalapeños. I like a lot of spice, and absolutely have to have jalapeños in the house. Fresh jalapeños from the Mexican markets are the best- they are really spicy. My favorite dish with them is carne la mexicana: steak, onions, peppers, jalapeños, served with rice and beans. Delicious.

Do you like to travel?

  • Yes! I went to Los Angelos, California to visit with my sisters. We went to Disneyland and two beautiful beaches. The culture out west is so different than here- I mostly loved the tons of food! And the authentic Hispanic restaurants, especially.

When you’re in the middle of a lunch rush, what is your mindset?

  • I might be a little nervous and stressed, but I’m super focused. You can’t make any mistakes!
