Meet the Chef: Isidro Grande

If you’ve ever worked in a restaurant or the service industry, you know that a breakfast or lunch rush can be like whirlwind, with you trying to keep up with it all. But back in the kitchen on Nationwide Boulevard at Sunny Street Café, you’ll find Isidro Grande, the calm eye of the storm.

Quick, efficient, fast, he fills tickets like a pro. But he is steady and focused, getting the job done. Isidro is the kitchen’s lynchpin, but he knows he’s nothing without his team, and he couldn’t be more proud of them. The kitchen staff at Sunny Street Café is his favorite part of working there, and as the person who is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the kitchen he really understands the value of a good team.

So we wanted to give you the opportunity to get to know this reliable, hard-working chef a little better. I went in and asked him a few questions.

Meet the Chef: Isidro Grande

What was the first thing you ever cooked? And was it edible (be honest)?

  • The first thing I ever cooked was an omelette. And no, it wasn’t edible. It broke, sadly.

When you were learning how to cook, what was the biggest hurdle you had to overcome?

  • The language barrier was the biggest hurdle, by far.

Outside of the kitchen, what do you really love to do?

  • I am a die-hard soccer competitor.

The holidays are on the horizon- what is your favorite part of this foodie-centered season?

  • My favorite part is the time I get to spend with loved ones. This is the first Thanksgiving in 15 years I get to spend with them.
