Happy Father's Day!

Dads are pretty amazing. They changed your diapers, took you to school, cooked you meals, and helped you grow into the human you are today. It seems simply natural that we have a national holiday just to celebrate them.

But it wasn’t always like that. Way back in 1908 (or 1910, depending on which story you believe), someone noticed that there was a Mother’s Day but fathers were sorely neglected. The two coast lines have their own origin story on the holiday. On the West Coast a woman was listening to a Mother’s Day sermon and wanted to celebrate her totally amazing dad who raised her and her 5 siblings all on his own. On the East Coast they commemorated miners who died in an explosion.

Regardless of where it began, once that day caught on it caught on like wildfire.  By 1966 Lyndon B. Johnson made the third Sunday as the official day, and in 1972 Nixon recognized it as a national holiday. Fathers finally got their day in the sun!

Here at Sunny Street we love celebrating dads. We particularly love filling them up with a hearty breakfast before sending them out to spend time with their family. For this Fathers Day start your day off with a Carnitas Flatbread or our new Sunny’s Skillet. If you’re not a fan of carnitas we always have bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, chicken fried steak, biscuits and gravy, oatmeal…

However you celebrate your dad, we wish you the best Fathers Day yet! And THANK YOU to all you great dads out there!
